Ex-Real Madrid and Chelsea great Claude Makelele is set to take the plunge into management and has been confirmed as the new manager of Ligue 1 outfit Bastia.
Makelele was a part of Paris Saint Germain’s backroom staff under Carlo Ancelotti and his successor Laurent Blanc before he replaced Frederic Hantz as Basita’s manager.
Bastia posted a message on their website saying: 'Sporting Club Bastia is pleased to announce that Claude Makelele will be the trainer for the next two seasons,'
'He will arrive in Bastia on Monday when he will sign his contract before being presented to the press the next day at 11am.
'The former Paris St Germain man will be assisted in his task by Didier Tholot.
'The great family of Sporting Club de Bastia welcome them.'
The former France international, who has been capped 71 times for his country, has had stints at Real Madrid where he won 2 La Liga’s and 1 Champions League and at Chelsea where he won two Premier league titles among other trophies.
Makelele was so good as a defensive midfielder that the defensive midfield position is popularly known as the Makelele role in honor of him.
