Back home, Club America have enjoyed a solid start to the new Mexican campaign as they clinched the Super Cup title on June 30 and have won two of their opening four league matches.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa suffered a second consecutive defeat in the off-season on Wednesday when they were beaten 2-0 by German outfit RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.
Before that, Emery’s men kicked off their pre-season fixtures with back-to-back wins over Walsall and Spartak Trnava before falling to a 4-1 defeat against MLS side Columbus Crew on July 20.
Aston Villa follows Saturday’s clash with games against Athletic Bilbao and Borussia Dortmund before visiting the London Stadium to take on West Ham United in their 2024-25 Premier League opener on August 17.
