The lifestyle of typical office-goers consists of long working hours and longer traffic jams! Weekends don’t get any better as far as entertainment is concerned — from aimless walks in the malls to watching brainless reality shows on TV. Amidst the hustle and bustle of our cities, office-goers tend to become isolated from society and their passions.

There is a need to address these fundamental issues of the working class. We need a platform where an individual can rekindle his or her passion while facilitating social interactions.

One such medium is sports. As the definition goes, sport is all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organized participation, aims to use, maintain or improve physical fitness and provide entertainment to participants. Participating in any kind of sport enables individuals to achieve a healthy lifestyle, with the added benefits of it being fun and social at the same time.

My Sportz Network is a community for sports enthusiasts that aims to address this need by providing a platform for them. The intention is to create and fulfill the sporting needs of its members while facilitating social interactions.

At My Sportz Network matches are played in a league format between member teams on weekends. The venue, referees and equipment are taken care of by My Sportz Network. Members have to just show up at the venue and get started. As this is not a knock-out tournament members get at least 6-8 action-packed weekends where they get to play a sport of their choice. This is a recreational sports league, and people will play every other team at least once.

The first league, called South Bangalore – Season 1, includes team sports like soccer, basketball and volleyball and is currently on at a venue near Bannerghatta Road. “We had registrations from individuals and teams. We grouped individuals and formed teams for them. The teams which have enrolled with us are mostly groups of friends who have common sporting interests and not necessarily from the same company,” says Sharad Sancheti and Akshay Murthy, who have started this venture. “It is a carnival for sports enthusiasts where they play a different team every weekend. The energy, passion and skill our members bring are intoxicating!” they said.

My Sportz Network’s plan is to spread to across the city and make it accessible for members to play closer to their homes. Their next league will start in March in the Sarjapur/HSR areaalongside the second season of the South Bangalore league on Bannerghatta Road. The long- term idea is to go to several cities across India and have multiple sports leagues.

My Sportz Network does not discriminate on the level of play. This being a recreational league, all levels of play – from novice to budding professional — are welcome. The idea is to give as many people as possible a healthy and fun weekend alternative.
