Competition for Lewandowski's signature heats up, as Guardiola enters equation

Ryder Cup - Day Three Singles

Pep Guardiola’s surprise move to Bavarian giants, Bayern Munich has shifted a number of equations in football, most notably regarding transfers. A number of players from within Barca’s own cantera system have been linked with a move to Germany. Bayern have signed a manager who will not only add flair to their game, but will bring the Bundesliga as a whole into the spotlight.

Sir Alex Ferguson signed Dutchman Robin van Persie from Arsenal in order to restore Manchester United‘s supremacy in the town. But as the striker is reaching the late stages of his career, the Red Devil’s are out to seek a striker who will fill the goal-scoring void during the next transition period. Before the former Arsenal striker moved up north, United were heavily linked with Poland international Robert Lewandowski.

The 24-year old striker has made it clear that he wishes to move away from the Westfalenstadion and has already a number of top clubs around the world interested in him. Barcelona, who are actively seeking a replacement for David Villa, could swoop in for the clinical finisher, while north London sides Arsenal and Spurs also have a void upfront and could be drawn into the transfer tussle.

Entering the equation now, is future Munich boss, Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard is a massive fan of Lewandowski and could lure the player to Munich. Such a move would spark an outrage among the Dortmund faithful. Bayern could take advantage of the contract situation and secure the Polish goal-hunter for a lesser price in the summer.

Lewandowski was quoted saying: “After the last game of the season, I will sit down with my advisors and discuss everything and we will see what’s next.

“It’s nice that other clubs are interested but I am getting annoyed by all the speculation. For now I just want to concentrate on doing my best for Dortmund and Poland.”

The striker has netted 19 goals in 29 appearances this season, in all competitions. Lewandowski also scored 22 league goals last season, where he was third on the list, while he was the top-scorer, with seven goals from six games, as Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal.
