Rio de Janiero, March 22 (IANS) Peruvian football club Real Garcilaso is expected to know by Monday whether it will be punished for racist abuse from its fans during a Copa Libertadores match last month.
Former Brazil international midfielder Tinga was the target of repeated monkey chants during Cruzeiro’s 1-2 defeat to Real Garcilaso in Peru’s Andean city of Huancayo Feb 12, reports Xinhua.
According to South American football’s governing body Conmebol, preliminary investigations have been concluded.
In an interview with Brazil’s Radio Itatiaia Friday, Conmebol’s disciplinary tribunal president Caio Cesar Rocha said a fine or order to play behind closed doors were the most likely penalties.
