Predictably Unpredictable: Simply Tottenham Style

Ajay
Peter Crouch - netted twice in Tottenham win.

The predictability of Tottenham is their unpredictability. For years, they have been a fine side with a string of displays worth mentioning as examples in a statistics chapter. They field the widest range of stats and often surprise us. After commanding displays, comes the lackluster ones followed by the scrappy ones and to end with disasters. After what has been an extraordinary two years in their history, the light at the end of the tunnel is fading. The recent past has seen them exhibit the graph of an Indian shares market with the familiar hint of its unpredictability. A team so balanced in all positions yet again finds itself just short in the crunch moments.

From being the Villain in Madrid, Peter Crouch turned Hero against Stoke City through his Brace

The previous 5 matches for Tottenham have ended with 3 draws and a loss before coming into this one. A win against the Potters on Saturday in the White Hart Lane was a necessary potion required to conjure them back to good health after the Madrid debacle. They found it after edging the hard Stoke side in a thriller. It was their villain in the previous match who rose and shone bright here with a terrific brace. Peter Crouch‘s two headers were the highlight which eventually proved to be the deceive winner.

All 5 goals in this entertaining encounter were notched up in the first half, but the second proved to be just as fitting a display as the first minus the goals. An opening goal by the home team was inevitable and the second too was well inside 18 minutes. Luka Modric scored the second dancing around the Stoke defense. Stoke responded with a superb Mathhew Etherington solo effort to reduce the deficit to one goal lead before Crouch struck again. Kenwyne Jones pulled one back again with a terrific effort and that was the last strike of the match.

The score line ended 3-2 in favor of the home side, but everyone knew it could have ended differently. The Spurs fans will accept this gladly after what has been a downhill performance in the last month or so. Overall, this was a typical Tottenham style display. After all three points was a must if they wanted to keep up with Manchester City in the fight for the fourth place. Their dream Champions League debut seems to be ending in a nightmare and now the only possibility to play in it again is to finish in the top four of the league, which will be exactly be Harry Redknapp’s priority.

From Flooring Audiences one week to Breaking their Hearts the other, supporting Tottenham Hotspur produces no Dull Moments

Tottenham have yet again proven critics wrong by showing their unpredictability. They are the hottest subject in the Premier League who never fail to amaze us by the range of emotions they produce in us by watching them play. Be it their stunning displays in Milan or the disastrous one in Madrid, they always mange to grab the attention. It is now time to up the gear of the club to attain further success and it has to come with a price. They have to be more stable and the mentality of having the ‘glamor’ tag attached to them must change. Probably the signing of a marquee striker and a more definitive goalkeeper are needed to see this happen. Until then, their unpredictability, too, can become monotonous.
