Costa Rica and Paraguay face off at the Q2 Stadium in Austin on Tuesday (July 2) in the final group game of 2024 Copa America. Los Ticos kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought goalless draw with Brazil at the SoFi Stadium.
Against Colombia in their second game, they found themselves a goal down at the break before conceding two more after the restart in a lacklustre display, where they failed to register a shot on target.
Costa Rica are third in Group D with one point and must win and hope that Brazil lose their final game to retain any hope of advancing to the quarterfinals.
Paraguay, meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 defeat to leaders Colombia in their group opener last week, going two goals down before Brighton & Hove Albion man Julio Enciso halved the deficit in the second half.
Los Guaranies then suffered a 4-1 thrashing against an inspired Brazil outfit, conceding thrice in the first half before Omar Alderete scored a stunning consolation goal from outside the area.
Daniel Garnero's men are out of the tournament but will look to mark their exit on a positive note.
Costa Rica vs Paraguay Head-to-Head
Tuesday's game will mark the 10th meeting between Costa Rica and Paraguay. Both sides have won three games apiece, while their other three matchups have ended in draws.
The two sides last faced off in a group clash at Copa America 2016, playing out a goalless draw, both nations eventually crashing out in the group stage.
