Costa Rica's World Cup kit becomes a rage; Lotto falling short of demand

Costa Rica Kit has become a huge rage and has witnessed a huge sellout

Sports firm Lotto Italia have enjoyed huge profits thanks to the success of Costa Rica in the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Costa Rica is having a dream run in the ongoing tourney after they advanced to Quarter-Finals after defeating Greece on penalties. Costa Rica have done very well to reach the last eight after they were initially placed in a group which had three former World Cup champions.

Costa Rica have helped Lotto witness huge financial success after they defeated Uruguay during the group stage as their kit has been a huge sell out and to such an extent that the Red home jersey is no longer available in short sleeves.

Lotto is struggling to keep up with demands and has already sold 50,000 extra kit of the Los Ticos and the FIFA online store doesn't have any red strip available.

“We are now having trouble organising some fast production to let everyone have this shirt that will become a memory of a historic achievement,” Lotto’s president, Andrea Tomat, told Reuters in an interview.

“We have far less resources than the major brands … so we have to work with someone that can be an underdog, someone that can come from behind and has something a little special,” Tomat said.

Costa Rica is one of the five countries out of the 32 participants who are not sponsored by sporting giants Nike, Adidas and Puma. Lotto began their relationship with Costa Rica in the 1990 World Cup when they made it to the last 16 despite having shortage of any experienced players in their ranks.

Costa Rica defeated Greece in the Round of 16 match despite being down to 10 men and fought to keep the scores at level till the extra time before sealing the contest during the penalty shoot-out. They will now face Netherlands in the quarter-finals
