Several reports suggest that English club Coventry City have officially gone into liquidation following a failed CVA (Company Voluntary Arrangement) agreement to keep the club afloat.
The club, that plays in League 1 in England, was founded in 1883 as Singers FC and has a rich history, having won the FA Cup in 1987.
The club could face severe penalties, which include a 15-point deduction in the points tally in League 1. The club is supposed to play their first game tomorrow, August 2.
Coventry City have been facing some serious problems in the recent past as the club owners refused to pay Arena Coventry Limited (ACL) – the owners of their home ground Ricoh Arena – the required rent and were in serious debt.
Earlier, fans of the club had staged a protest march against the owners of the club as they were forced to travel 35 miles to watch their club’s home games.
