Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin is edging closer to a move to Chelsea, according to the Daily Express.
The Colombian will cost an estimated £14 million with the Blues ready to table a bid as the January transfer window is set to open.
Jose Mourinho wants reinforcements in his midfield with an assault on three trophies in the New Year.
His midfield has 35-year-old Frank Lampard in it, and the Englishman is missing for a couple of weeks with injury so Guarin’s arrival is needed and an immediate impact is necessary.
Guarin, a strong-running player who can operate centrally or on either flank, has featured regularly for Inter this season but Chelsea have already begun negotiations with the club and the player’s agents.
Michael Essien, another Chelsea midfielder, looks set to leave the club, freeing up the space for Guarin to arrive in London and the Ghanian’s agent spoke about a possible move away.
“It’s true that he could leave Chelsea this winter.
“Several big European clubs playing in the Champions League have made inquiries and it should play out in the next 10 days or so.”
