Cristiano Ronaldo allays Real Madrid fans' fears over hamstring injury

Cristiano Ronaldo's suspected hamstring injury isn't too serious and he won't be out for long

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has put to rest any rumours over how serious his hamstring injury was, sending an update on social media to his fans. He had earlier walked off the field clutching his hamstring after Real's match against Villarreal, a match which saw Los Blancos win 3-0.

There had been a lot of speculation regarding the same, as to how his absence will affect Real Madrid. The team have recently been playing very well, forcing their way into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and getting back into title contention in the La Liga, as they are now just one point behind leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Ronaldo has been at the centre of their resurgence, having scored the winner against Barcelona at the Camp Nou while it was his hat-trick in the second leg against Wolfsburg that enabled Real to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit and progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

After having tests done today morning at Real's training ground, Valdebebas, to check for the extent of damage, the Portuguese captain took to Instagram to give his anxious fans an update, indicating that nothing was serious and that he will be back playing for the team very soon.

Though Real Madrid haven't really issued an official statement about Ronaldo's condition yet, it is expected that he will be made to sit out of their match on the weekend against Rayo Vallecano, to ensure he gets enough rest, and will be fully fit and available for their Champions League first-leg match against Manchester City in England.

Following Ronaldo walking off clutching his hamstring, coach Zinedine Zidane had spoken to the media about the same. He said, “Once in a while he needs to be substituted so he can rest. It's necessary for him not to finish one game or to miss one game occasionally. But he's a player who always wants to play and give everything he has. It's difficult for me at times."

Ronaldo has been in tremendous form this season, having scored 47 goals and provided 15 assists in 44 matches this season. In some matches, he has carried the team on his back, like against Wolfsburg. Ever since Zidane took over as coach, the former Manchester United man has done all that he can to help the club salvage their season, as they look to claim their 11th Champions League title, the Undecima.
