Ronaldo apologised to fans

Cristiano Ronaldo skyed a penalty last night just minutes before he scored his goal against Sevilla. According to AS, in a gesture towards the fans for his miss, he celebrated his goal by holding his hands up to the crowd as an apology.

Real Madrid closed the gap on Atletico Madrid last night after routing Sevilla 4-0.Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo started together for the first time after a gap of two months.

The last time the three players played together it was a 5-1 victory over Valencia as the three forwards scored all of Real Madrid’s goals that day. That was almost the case today as each of the three once again got on the scoresheet with Jese adding a fourth goal late on.

Ronaldo has had his fair share of troubles with fans in the past but this was a nice gesture from the record goalscorer. The fans of the Bernabeu recently booed the star during their Champions League second leg against AS Roma.

The forward missed several chances during the game which prompted boos from the Madrid faithful. But Real’s captain Sergio Ramos came to Ronaldo’s defence. “I would tell the fans to think a little first, I respect them but when things don't go well they should support their players because we all want the best for Real Madrid.” he said in an interview with Marca.

Ronaldo was involved in controversy with teammates

Ronaldo was also involved in a controversy with his teammates after making unwanted comments about their performance. “If everyone was as good as me, maybe we would be first,” Ronaldo said. “If a team does not play with the best is difficult to win a long competition. I don't want to insult anyone.”

His captain once again came to his rescue defending his comments saying,”Players like Lucas Vazquez, Jese Rodriguez or Borja Mayoral are giving everything because they know how hard it is to get their chance here. But Cristiano is free to offer his opinion.”

Real need to win El Classico to reignite title hopes

With Barcelona and Atletico Madrid dropping points yesterday Real Madrid were able to close the gap on their title rivals. Zinedine Zidane’s men are now a point behind their city rivals and 10 points behind leaders Barcelona.

The team will travel to the Nou Camp after the international break to play the second El Classico of the season. Barcelona won their previous encounter at the Bernabeu 4-0 and Real Madrid will be looking to avenge that defeat. If they win, it will give them a small chance at overhauling the points gap between them and the Catalans before the season is over.
