Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has over 101 million fans on his Facebook page, and he sure knows how to make a noble use out of it. The Portuguese star backed a campaign to save Margarida Queiroz, a baby born prematurely.
Margarida, who is ethnically Portuguese, was born in Dubai and had been suffering a serious growth deficiency, weighing just 410 grams after 25 weeks. Her medical costs has been far too much for her parents, Goncalo and Eugenia Queiroz, who now find it immensely difficult to support their child.
Margarida was born on 28th of October and she needs medical care worth over 1000€ every day to survive.
Ronaldo gave the campaign a massive social media boost by sharing a post stating, "Let's support baby Margarida. No help is too small," on his massively popular Facebook page.
Following the post, Margarida’s grandmother Odilia Sousa thanked her on the post writing, “Hello CR7, I am the grandmother of Margarida, and I am very touched by your effort to to help my granddaughter survive. May God enlighten you in your professional life.”
Ronaldo wrote her back, saying, "Any help could make the difference. I hope the whole family can stay strong."
The campaign has since a huge upgrade since then, attracting almost 100,000 likes on their page on Facebook, and over 100,000 euros in charity.
"We have raised over 100,000 euros, mainly from Portugal," Margarida’s mother told Portuguese TV network TVI, "but it's not even close to being enough."
