What's the story?
Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he lost a bet with manager Massimiliano Allegri after missing a penalty against Chievo in the Serie A.
In case you didn't know...
Earlier this week, Juventus registered a comfortable win over Chievo Verona to restore their nine-point lead in the Serie A table.
Douglas Costa, Emre Can and Daniele Rugani all found the net in a game in which the Bianconeri went into as clear favourites.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo failed to finish a penalty early in the second half after a Mattia Bani handball inside the box gave him an opportunity to add to his goal tally. The shot was denied by Chievo shot-stopper, Stefano Sorrentino.
The heart of the matter
Ronaldo has now spoken about the miss, revealing that it cost him a bet he made with Allegri at the start of the season.
The 33-year-old star said (via The Independent), "It's true I had a bet with my coach on scoring every penalty this season. I'm ready to keep it."
"It makes me happy to know that my contribution is appreciated by my coach and teammates. They really welcomed me very well and I want to repay their trust and support with hard work."
Earlier, Allegri had defended his star man after the penalty miss, remarking:
"Important penalties are others … it can happen to miss a penalty, I don't think this is the first time that Ronaldo misses a penalty in his career. The most important thing is that the team won the game at the end.
He (Ronaldo) wanted to score and in the second half technically played much better."
What's next?
Juventus will next face Lazio this weekend in a game that will serve as the perfect opportunity for Ronaldo to score his 17th goal of the season.
