Czech Republic outfit Football Club Viktoria Plzen could tour India in January 2015, Sportskeeda can reveal.
The two-time Czech Republic champions are planning to have a three-week camp in India during their winter break in January 2015.
The India Under-23 squad is currently having an exposure tour in Czech Republic to prepare for the 2014 Asian Games and their base is in Pilsen, the city where Viktoria Plzen are based.
The Czech Republic ministry had shown interest in sending one of their clubs to India and 2012-13 champions Viktoria Plzen have been chosen to make that trip next year.
“They have informed us that Viktoria Plzen want to have a three-week camp here during their winter break in January 2015. They also want to play a few matches. Talks are still going on regarding their potential base and opponents,” AIFF general secretary Kushal Das told Sportskeeda.
Formed in 1911, Viktoria Plzen had to wait for 100 years to win their first-ever top-flight title. They featured in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in 2011-12. They were eliminated from their group but went on to qualify for the round of 32 of the Europa League.
In 2012-13 Viktoria Plzen won their second league title and finished third in their group in the 2013-14 Champions League. The former club of Czech great Petr Cech reached the Europa League round of 16 that season.
Last season they finished runners-up in th domestic league behind Sparta Prague and thus have qualified for this season’s Europa League. With the Czech league having a near three-month break from the end of November, most clubs play friendlies or hold camps in different countries to keep themselves match fit and India seems to be Viktoria Plzen’s preferred destination this winter.
