After long, hard, anxious months, Theo Walcott has finally signed ‘da ting’. He has just signed a 2-year extension to his contract, with wages around £100,000/week and with £3 million sign-on bonuses. Brilliant deal if you ask me, but I believe that Walcott has to prove he’s worth all of it. I mean, sure his Newcastle performance was outstanding, but against Manchester City and Southampton, he was bad. With talks of Cavani coming in, even though the deal is HIGHLY unlikely, Walcott will have to shift to the right. And it’s time he realizes this. He’s scored more goals as a winger this season than as a striker, and if Walcott realizes that, then he and Wenger can both be happy because Wenger would have one less player to worry about. Walcott knows exactly where to put the crosses and has the pace and the quality to beat even the best of the full-backs. Sure, Walcott should be allowed to play as a striker from time to time, but if we want Giroud to turn into the player that he can be, then Walcott has to shift to the right. Giroud does not have the pace to play as a winger. Maybe a second stirker, but that’s highly unlikely for a man of Giroud’s stature, who’s nodded home 6 headers this season. And his main supplier is Walcott.
But lets not think about that for now. Walcott has just massively boosted Arsenal morale and confidence, including the whole squad and the boss’ as well. And it’s a good thing this was announced before the Chelsea game, because the Gunners need that lift. A win at Stamford Bridge is a must for Arsenal, who recently won against Swansea in the third round of the FA Cup. Wilshere produced a late winner in the form of a beautiful volley which was extremely Gerrard-esque. Theo’s commitment to the club, a win against Swansea and a win against Chelsea, and I can see Arsenal maybe lifting some silverware this season. Come on you Gunners.
