Manchester United will bolster their ranks with the £3.9million signing of defender Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem. The 23-year-old left-back flew to England on Sunday to undergo a medical with United ahead of penning a five-year contract. Buttner has been regularly linked with a move to England this summer and had looked poised to join Southampton with Vitesse announcing in July they had agreed a deal with the Barclays Premier League newcomers, but that deal fell through.
In a shock transfer deal, Kaka has been offered to Manchester United on a season-long loan as Real Madrid prepare for the arrival of Luka Modric. Galatasaray and Kaka’s former club AC Milan have also registered their interest in the 2007 World Player of the Year, but United are the biggest draw for the Brazilian. Sir Alex Ferguson is giving the 30-year-old serious consideration but has fears about his form and fitness after so many injuries.
Madrid’s pursuit of Luka Modric has been far-stretched so far but looks like it will fall through in due course, which will then open up the opportunity for Madrid to offload their star who could never really get his career going at the Bernabeau.
Sunderland have lodged a £10m bid for Manchester City‘s Adam Johnson. The winger is also the subject of interest from Everton and Tottenham, but Sunderland have made the best offer. Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill has also enquired about Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov, 31, and is considering a loan move for Tottenham’s Danny Rose, 22.
Michael Owen is in advanced talks with Everton and is close to joining his boyhood idols on a free transfer. The former Liverpool and England striker, 32, who has also been courted of late by Stoke, must pass a stringent medical but it suits his wishes to stay in the north-west.
Michael Owen had a two-year long spell at Manchester United where he couldn’t break into the first team. He will now pursue his career with his former club Liverpool’s arch-rivals.
