The Hague - Danish international Christian Eriksen has got an extra week of rest from his employer, Dutch club, Ajax due to fatigue, local reports said Thursday.
Since his debut for Ajax in January 2010, Eriksen has played almost constantly which explains his fatigue, Xinhua reported.
The 20-year-old midfielder played all matches for Denmark at Euro 2012, in which the Danes were eliminated in the group stage. A 1-0 victory over the Netherlands was followed by defeats against Portugal (2-3) and Germany (1-2).
In the summer of 2010 he participated in the World Cup in South Africa and in the summer of 2011 he was present at the European U-21 Championships with Denmark.
Ajax coach Frank de Boer and the player’s agent Martin Schoots discussed the situation Wednesday. The result being that Eriksen was given additional weeks of vacation. He now needs to get back in Amsterdam in about a month. The Dane also receives a special fitness programme.
