Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has admitted that he was delighted to play along with Wayne Rooney for the first time since returning to training for the new season.
Both of them are teammates at Manchester United also apart from England. But Rooney did not feature for United in any of their pre-season matches and had also missed the Community Shield victory over Wigan last Sunday due to injury and his unsettling situation at Old Trafford.
But Rooney was a part of England’s winning side and played for 67 minutes in Wednesday’s friendly against Scotland. Welbeck was all praise for Rooney.
The 22-year-old, who was adjudged Man of the Match was quoted by Sky Sports saying, “It’s really good to link up with him. I’ve been playing with him for a very long time now.
“Once we’re on the pitch we know each other’s games. I’m just really happy for him to get out on the pitch and get his first game of the season.
“We all know the quality Wayne Rooney possesses. To have him on the pitch for Manchester United is a bonus.”
