Former Manchester United player David Beckham has backed his ex-teammate Ryan Giggs to lead the charge and become a full-time manager at Old Trafford one day, as per the Premier League’s official website. The Welshman was the interim manager of United towards the end of 2013/14 season after the departure of David Moyes when the Scot was relieved off his duties at Old Trafford.
Giggs, who is one of the most decorated players in the history of United, was named player-coach by Moyes in 2013 after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. Towards the end of the campaign, the Welshman had a four-match spell as the caretaker boss, when the club saw a slump and Moyes was no longer in charge of the Red Devils. The club ended up finishing seventh in the league that season and it was the first time in more than a decade United failed to secure a Champions League spot.
Following the dismissal of the former Everton manager, Louis van Gaal succeeded Moyes in the summer of 2014 and Giggs was appointed as the Dutchman’s assistant. Under the guidance of Van Gaal, whose United contract is ending in 2017, he could well be ready for the next level and his ex-teammate endorses the future appointment.
“I have always said that Giggsy he has this streak running through him that you see in top managers,” Beckham said.
“I saw it as a player. He is so determined.
“When you have someone like that at a club like this, someone who is from this part of the world and knows so much about this the club, it is embedded into him, having something like it is something that means so much to fans.
“To see some of the young players coming through in this team and seeing what the manager is doing, and to have Giggsy sat on the line hopefully preparing himself to become the manager at some point, it’s exciting.
“I hope at some point Giggsy does take over. At some point, it would be amazing for the United fans to have him in charge.”
