Former England captain David Beckham revealed that he ended up shaving off his mohawk in Wembley’s toilet after he received the order from Sir Alex Ferguson. Back in 2000, when Manchester United had to face Chelsea in the Charity Shield match, Beckham had come to the match with some preparation that didn’t sit well with the Ferguson.
Beckham who had dawned a shaved look earlier that year, admitted that Ferguson’s facial expression was strong enough to make Beckham pull out the clippers.
“I was in the dressing room with an hour to go before kick off when Sir Alex Ferguson saw it and made me shave it off,” Beckham said on the Graham Norton Show.
“I said no at first and then I saw his face change very quickly so I went and shaved it off in the toilet. He was very strict.
“It was the reputation of the club, he wanted all the players to look professional and he felt it wasn’t the right look. We were playing at Wembley too, so he kind of had a point!”
Beckham though regrew his hair to dawn the style again, but he did so at the end of the season when he was on duty for England and not under Ferguson.
