Former England footballer David Beckham’s name has been included in the list of names for this year’s New Year’s Honours list and he stands a chance to receive a knighthood from the British Empire.
Beckham already has an OBE (Order of the British Empire) which had been awarded to him by the Queen in 2003, and this would be a further vindication of his efforts for England, as he is set to receive one of the highest ever honours.
The Sun reports that a final seal of approval for Beckham’s knighthood is likely to come through sometime later this month.
If the title is indeed granted, then Beckham would henceforth come to be known as Sir David Beckham and his wife would come to be known as Lady Victoria.
Officials are said to be carrying out the standard checks as part of procedure which include assessing the Englishman’s fortune, which is reportedly in the range of £165 million.
Bookmakers are quite optimistic of the honour being conferred on Beckham and have given the footballer 5/4 odds to be a knighted individual come the new year.
