Manchester United have struggled ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. However, David De Gea has been consistently performing at high levels and has singlehandedly rescued points for the Red Devils on many occasions.
De Gea sometimes has put even Superman to shame with some stunning saves which seem to defy time and gravity. One of the few true superstars in the Manchester United line-up, the Spaniard has already attracted the attention of Spanish superclub Real Madrid.
De Gea’s presence in the team makes a huge difference for Manchester United and he has given some of his best performances against big teams and rivals like Liverpool and Chelsea. However, De Gea is set to leave to a club playing Champions League football if Louis van Gaal stays on as Manchester United manager for another year.
Reports from the Telegraph state that the Spanish goalkeeper’s future at Manchester United is pretty assured if Jose Mourinho takes over at Old Trafford. However, De Gea is much less certain of staying if Van Gaal remains in charge. With Champions League qualification not possible for United this season, the pressure on the veteran Dutchman is only set to increase in the coming ways.
One of the best goalkeepers in the world right now, David De Gea is said to be disappointed over the fact that United will be missing Champions League football twice in the last three seasons. Although Manchester United have dismissed reports of there being a release clause in the Spaniard’s contract, a host of big European clubs like Real Madrid will be following De Gea’s situation with interest.
Manchester United have an agreement in principle with Jose Mourinho, but despite the former Real Madrid manager’s belief that he will succeed Van Gaal as Manchester United manager in the summer, nothing has yet been signed with the Portuguese manager.
Van Gaal has done some good work for Manchester United this season encouraging youth and giving them chances in the first team. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have all performed admirably for the first team and there is a fear in the Manchester United hierarchy that the appointment of Jose Mourinho will prove detrimental to young stars coming in from the United academy.
The Dutch manager can still end the season on a good note when Manchester United face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on May 21st.
