Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has refused to deny he has a release clause in his newly signed deal with the Red Devils and in doing so has once again cast doubts over his future, according to Mirror. The Spanish goalkeeper signed a new contract with United in the month of September after his move to Real Madrid collapsed on transfer deadline day.
The transfer saga for the former Atletico Madrid keeper went on for months as he was destined to join Los Blancos during the summer. Unfortunately, the move could not be completed when the deal collapsed dramatically on 31st August and both clubs blamed each other for the occurrence.
The 24-year-old moved on from there and went on to sign a fresh four-year deal, fetching him up to £200,000 a week in wages, which will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2019. With this move, United have secured a protection on their prime asset.
It is believed that a release clause of £30 million has been inserted into his contract by the Red Devils which could revive Real’s interest in the goalkeeper and at the same time receive an acceptable price in the next transfer window.
De Gea was in action for La Roja against Ukraine and in the post-match interview, the United keeper refused to deny a clause is in the fresh terms he signed to the press while the club have also refused to comment on whether the clause exists.
De Gea said: "You should ask Jorge [Mendes, De Gea's agent] that question. He is the one who pays attention to those sort of details."
No doubt this statement will concern the Old Trafford supporters, who suffered the stress of watching the Spaniard’s move to Santiago Bernabeu collapse at the final hours of the transfer window.
De Gea shines for his national team
Vicente Del Bosque’s side secured a 1-0 victory over Ukraine in Kiev and De Gea was put out a stellar performance as he pulled off a string of impressive saves, Express reported. The 24-year-old received a lot of praise from his teammates and has admitted he has never played better.
"I'm in the best form of my career. I always try and do my best. Things worked out well and the important thing was to win the game," he said.
"I always give my all and against Ukraine luck was on my side too. This is the way forward.”
"For a goalkeeper, all saves are important, but if I had to choose one, maybe the stop with my feet in the first half with the game tied at 0-0. I'd opt for that one as my favourite."
