Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has defended David Moyes by saying that the Scot has been harshly criticized over transfers.

“New manager David Moyes is still feeling his way and had the strength not to do anything rash, analyzing what he had at his disposal before making too many decisions,” Dalglish told a national paper.

Manchester United were linked with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alacantra and Ander Herrera in the summer but failed to lure in any player apart from Marouane Fellaini.

“Until now, all the talk was about Sir Alex Ferguson leaving, but people are beginning to realize former chief executive David Gill is a big miss, too,” Dalglish added.

He also raised his concerns over the timing of David Gill’s stepping down from his role as a chief executive of Manchester United. Dalglish felt he could have stepped down after the transfer window was shut. He felt his experience would have been valuable in a topsy-turvy three-month summer break, when negotiating with players, agents and their clubs can be a daunting task for an in-coming CEO, more so if the incumbent CEO, Ed Woodward in this case, has had scant experience in this regard.

“This is not a reflection on his successor, Ed Woodward, but I wonder if United might be wishing they had asked Gill to postpone stepping down until after this transfer window to make the transition a little easier,” he said.
