Anderson’s performances can be compared to the Hailey’s Comet which is seen once every 75 years. Fortunately for Manchester United they will never have to wait for that Comet to appear again as Anderson is set to finally call time on his disastrous Manchester United career and try his luck in the less stressful shores of Italy.
The midfielder was recently snapped by a British tabloid in Florence, Italy where he arrived to complete his medical with the club before officially becoming a Fiorentina player. The midfielder will most likely complete a loan deal which may be made permanent, for Manchester United’s sake, in the summer.
The midfielder arrived at Old Trafford in 2007 as a promising midfielder. Sir Alex Ferguson was made aware of his talents in 2005 after he won the Golden Ball in the South American Under-17 Football Championship.
Anderson put in such a brilliant performance for the Brazil national team in the tournament that he was tipped to surpass the achievements of Ronaldinho, who was at the top of his game back then.
The English Champions then acquired his services for around £20 million, hoping that he would be the spark the team was missing for years. Anderson even earned the prestigious Golden Boy Award in 2008 which was a sign of a special career for the midfielder.
Unfortunately for Manchester United, Anderson never quite settled in England and was used sparingly by Sir Alex who was determined to nurture the player so that he could fulfill his true potential once again.
Anderson finally scored his first goal for United after 4 years in the Audi Cup game against Boca Juniors where he scored a brilliant free kick against the opposition reminding everyone of what he could do when he is charged.
The Brazilian showed sparks of excellence once again in the 2011 Champions League semi-final game against Schalke 04 where he scored twice helping the Red Devils reach the finals of the tournament.
Anderson gave some spirited performances last season most notably in the 31st October 2012 Capital One Cup game against Chelsea where he was involved in all three of United’s goals and in the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in December where Sir Ale Ferguson stated that “Anderson changed the game”. However, the Brazilian went back to his old inconsistent ways again and was not used much after that.
David Moyes, who is about to start rebuilding Manchester United, has been unimpressed with Anderson using him just 8 times in all competitions this season. Manchester United have been reeling from bad form this season and the club have no place for a player like Anderson if they want to return to their glory days again.
Inconsistency by Manchester United is as good as suicide for the team who are now in danger of not qualifying for the Champions League next year. Moyes was unlikely to use Anderson much this season, preferring Phil Jones in the midfield role so it is best for Anderson if he gets a fresh start.
Fiorentina are a great club who are now genuine Serie A contenders thanks to the presence of former Manchester United striker Guiseppe Rossi so it would be best for Anderson if he tries his luck in Italy.
Who knows Anderson may find his form that he has been missing all these years and earn a place in the Brazil squad, who last picked him in 2008, once again. At 25 Anderson still has a chance to turn his career around at Fiorentina but at Manchester United he will always be the seed that didn’t germinate into a fruit bearing tree.
