Manchester United manager David Moyes insists Javier Hernandez still remains a part of his plans as the Mexican striker’s future is called into doubt.
Hernandez has started just one Premier League game this season and appeared to endorse a move away from United by retweeting comments by Carlos Vela suggesting he should leave the club.
The former Guadalajara forward has scored three times in his last two matches but was an unused substitute against Fulham at the weekend.
Man Utd’s forwards, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, are in good form which is pushing Hernandez further away from the starting line-up, but Moyes insists he remains important to the squad.
“We need Javier Hernandez; he’s very good for us,” Moyes told Sky Sports.
“He’s scored a lot of goals over the last few years and continues to do so, so we’ll continue to use him.”
Carlos Vela’s comments on Hernandez, that prompted the United forward to retweet them, were: “He is one of the best finishers in England and deserves chances under the new coach.
“If he plays regularly he will score, so I don’t totally understand why a player of his quality has not played more games.
“If he doesn’t play regularly he will need to think about leaving.
“You always want to succeed at the biggest clubs – but if he is not given the chance there will be big teams in England and Europe wanting him.”
The Mexican has reached double figures in goals in each season he’s played in the Premier League.
Javier Hernandez has a 75% shot accuracy in the Premier League this season. He has hit three shots on target and one off.
