David Moyes has revealed that his Manchester United side are proving more successful in away games this season because there is less pressure on them to succeed.
United beat Newcastle 4-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday to record the tenth success on the road this season, but United have been uncharacteristically poor at Old Trafford, winning just seven of their 16 games on home soil, including defeats to the likes of West Brom, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur.
Moyes has claimed that his United side seem to thrive when there is less expectancy on them and that has helped them to record the best away record in the Premier League this season.
Moyes told reporters, “Maybe there’s a big expectation at Old Trafford to go and be a bit gung-ho and play in a real attacking style.
“We’ve lost a few games by narrow margins – 1-0 to Newcastle and Everton.
“We’ve lost a few games like that, whereas maybe away from home there’s not as much expectancy to go and be like that.”
Moyes will be hoping that United can maintain the excellent away form in Europe, as they travel to Munich to take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, with the score delicately poised at 1-1 from the first leg at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have a goal difference of +15 in games on the road this season. They have one of just +3 from games at Old Trafford. They have the best away record in the Premier League
