Manchester United have officially sacked manager David Moyes effective immediately.
Ed Woodward, Chief executive of the club, met with the Scot on Tuesday morning at Carrington and informed him of the club’s decision to let him go after a disappointing campaign that sees the Red Devils in 7th position and out of the Champions League for next season.
The sacking rumours were already reverberating around Old Trafford yesterday as the club’s US owners, the Glazers, had run out of patience. And now Manchester United have officially confirmed that he has left the club.
Earlier, United were eliminated by Swansea City in the third round of the FA Cup, by Sunderland in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup and by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.United have won 27 of 51 matches during the Moyes tenure, drawing nine and losing 15.
It is understood that Ryan Giggs will take over until the end of the season and Louis Van Gaal will take over in the summer.
