Manchester City midfielder David Silva believes that Manchester United are yet to see the best of their club record signing Juan Mata.
The Spaniard moved from Chelsea in a £37m January move, but has been unable to turnaround United’s patchy form this season.
Many have suggested that this has been due to United boss David Moyes’ reluctance to deploy him in his preferred central role, in which he excelled against West Ham at the weekend.
Silva, who faces Mata in the Manchester derby this week, believes that the former Chelsea man’s talent will shine through and insisted to reporters that the move was a good one for Mata.
“It is a difficult situation for him because the team is not playing that well,” opened Silva.
“They have not managed to bring out the best out in him but he is a very talented player and he will show it.
“He wasn’t getting the minutes at Chelsea so it was a good move for him to go to United.
Silva also revealed that he has been helping his Spain international teammate to feel at home in Manchester, going out to dinner with the United man to ease his transition to the new city.
“I have been out to dinner with him and his family and we are friends. Anything he needs, he knows he can come to me for. Maybe after the game we can have a meal; it depends.”
