London, Aug 27 (IANS) English football club Southampton announced on Saturday that Portugal defender Cedric Soares has renewed his contract until 2020.
The Portuguese right-back, who won the Euro 2016 with his national team, has played 27 matches with the English club and scored two goals since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2015, reports Efe.
"I'm really happy. The club has given me more confidence. I am really happy to be part of this club and be part of this family as well," said Cedric, who joined the English club last year for 4.7 million pounds ($6.1 million).
Head coach Claude Puel pointed out that the renewal is "good news for the club, for Cedric and for all the team".
"He is an international player, he has won the Euro 2016 with Portugal and it's important for the club to keep players of his calibre."
Puel added that Cedric is "a good, important and technical player" and will do "many good things" this season.
