Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the top four were dealt a hammer blow as they succumbed to a defeat against the defending champions, Manchester City. The Gunners head to the John Smith’s Stadium to face Huddersfield, who are languishing at the bottom of the table. With their top four hopes fading fast, the north Londoners have to win every game to have a chance of salvaging something out of this season.
Buoyed by the arrival of Denis Suarez from Barcelona on loan, Arsenal head coach Unai Emery will be hoping that the youngster, who came off the bench against Manchester City, will hit the ground running.
With injuries to key players, Emery has significant selection issues going into the clash. However, here is how the Gunners are expected to start:
Goalkeeper:
No surprises here as Bernd Leno will start in goal. The German was in inspired form against the Citizens even though he conceded three goals and he will be hoping for a quiet day against the team that are languishing at the bottom of the table.
Defence:
With Hector Bellerin and Sokratis sidelined and Mustafi proving inadequate, Unai Emery might opt for Konstantinos Mavropanos and Laurent Koscielny at the heart of the defence.
Fullbacks:
Injuries to Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles has severely limited Emery’s options at right back. Emery has no other option but to start Carl Jenkinson hoping that the youngster's love for the Gunners will help him fight for the team in this fixture. Sead Kolasinac is likely to retain his spot on the opposite flank.
Midfield:
With Granit Xhaka out of the game with a knock, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi are likely to start as the two deep-lying midfielders. This is the kind of game where Unai Emery will be looking to give Denis Suarez, his first premier league start. Mesut Ozil is likely to start on the bench alongside Aaron Ramsey.
Attack:
The due of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were subdued against the defending champions with the latter in particular looking stale on the flank. The duo is expected to spearhead the attack and the onus is on them to come good.
