According to reports in the Spanish press, Alberto Moreno has agreed terms with Liverpool over a five-year deal but there are problems regarding the form of the payment.
Estadio Deportivo state that Sevilla have settled on a €20 million fee for their talented left-back but are at a disagreement with Liverpool over how much of the fee should be paid in advance. It is also suggested that the deal would see Moreno earn £1.2 million a year.
Reports surfaced on Tuesday that Liverpool’s pursuit of Moreno was in danger of collapsing due to Sevilla’s £18 million valuation. The Mereysiders were said to be reluctant to match Sevilla’s asking price, yet it appears the two clubs eventually arrived at an agreeable conclusion, currently subject only to the structuring of payment.
The 21-year-old’s arrival at Anfield would enable Jon Flanagan to revert to his favoured right-back position, with Glen Johnson presumably demoted to a substitute role.
Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand has emerged as a potential alternative to Moreno that Liverpool are reportedly weighing up, although it’s not looking like an option Liverpool will have to explore.
Moreno would be Brendan Rodgers’ third acquisition this summer, following the capture of Rickie Lambert from Southampton in a £4.2 million deal and midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen.
