Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has claimed that the press should not compare Blues youngster Romelu Lukaku to himself, as it may be a burden.
Drogba will go down as one of Chelsea’s all-time greats and Lukaku has constantly been compared to the Ivorian due to their similar physique and playing style.
Despite impressing since arriving in the Premier League, Lukaku should not be compared to Drogba, claims the man himself, as it could hinder his development.
Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad reported: “It flatters me that I am Romelu’s idol, we called last weekend. But everyone needs to stop comparing us.
“We are both big and strong, but he has qualities that I did not and vice versa.
“Although he still has time to also get them. At 19 he was already at Chelsea, I was at Le Mans.”
Lukaku is currently on a season-long loan at Everton, his second loan spell away from Chelsea since signing for big money. He started the season in fine form but his performances have dipped in 2014, possibly down to how much time he’s had on the pitch.
Last season, he was West Bromwich Albion’s top scorer and was tipped to succeed at Chelsea this season but Jose Mourinho felt it was necessary to send him out on another loan deal.
