Brazil-born Spain striker Diego Costa is all set to join Chelsea for £32m after he completed his medical earlier today at Stamford Bridge.
Costa performed impressively for Atletico Madrid last season as he scored 27 goals in 34 games. He was also instrumental in helping Atletico Madrid reach the finals of the Champions League trophy, as he scored 8 goals in 9 games.
Jose Mourinho identified the absence of a goal scoring striker as Chelsea’s achilles heel last season as they had a miserable time scoring goals with their three primary strikers Samuel E’to, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba contributing a total of 19 goals.
Costa will add power and pace to the Chelsea attack and will bring some directness to a Chelsea attack which has a lot of skill and pace, but lacked finishing.
Chelsea might yet go back to tempt Atletico to let a couple of their other players leave, as Mourinho has expressed his admiration for Brazilian left back Filipe Luis and Portuguese midfielder and former Chelsea man Tiago Mendes.
