Diego Costa insists he is fit and ready to fire again after forced break

Diego Costa is set to return for Chelsea on Saturday against Aston Villa

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has warned Premier League defenders that he will be back in good shape from his ban on Saturday, as per the reports on Mirror. Costa was served a retrospective three-match suspension following his antics against Arsenal involving defender Laurent Koscielny at Stamford Bridge earlier this season.

The volatile player was left out of Vicente del Bosque’s squad against Luxembourg and Ukraine and Costa has been utilizing his spare time to battle back to fitness in a bid to revive Chelsea’s disappointing season.

The Brazillian-born-Spanish player was slapped by the FA with a three-match ban. Since then, he hasn’t been in action for the Blues in recent games excluding Chelsea’s defeat to Porto at the end of last month.

However, he has been declared fit for this weekend’s match against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. Costa, despite having a stunning debut campaign, has struggled this term, scoring only two goals and has admitted that his form was partly because of returning for pre-season overweight.

The former Atletico Madrid forward has insisted that he is back to full fitness and is now ready to hit the ground running on Saturday.

“It’s been really important for me." Costa said in an interview with Chelsea TV.

"I have been able to train with my own specific schedule to help me get better and better. The sessions have been good and I have been able to benefit from being here. I’ve been working on what I needed to work on and I am happy about that."

I appreciate the fans for their support: Costa

Despite all his flaws and controversy against the Gunners, Costa has still received the backing and full support of the Stamford Bridge faithful and has thanked the fans ahead of his comeback.

“It’s always important to spend some time with the fans when you can." he added.

"It’s a way of saying thank you to them for supporting us in a way we can’t do on the pitch. You never quite get used to it but it’s great because it makes you realise that you’re popular at a club that supports you, that people trust you.”

“That’s all really important to me. Hopefully, we can start on a good winning run for them all.”

The Blues have struggled during his suspension, picking up just one point from their clash against Newcastle and Southampton. Chelsea have now lost six of their 12 matches in all competition and are ranked 16th in the league table this season.
