Liverpool‘s target Diego Costa has signed a new deal with his current club, Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool had earlier tried to meet the buy-out clause of Costa, but the Brazilian striker decided to pen a contract extension of three years with Atletico Madrid.
He said to Sky Sports:
“I am very happy with this deal after fighting for a long time to win the affection of the fans, my team-mates and people inside the club.
“It is a very special moment and I am very happy here.”
Atletico’s Sports director Jose Luis Caminero said:
“Costa is one of the key pieces in the team and it continues our policy of trying to maintain the group that have brought us so much success in recent years. Extending his contract was one of our objectives.”
Costa had earlier played for Atletico, 2007-09. He then moved to Braga on loan. In 2010, he had returned to Atletico Madrid from Valladolid. He has scored 16 goals in 59 appearances for the club.
