Diego Forlan is a popular figure among European football supporters, and Indian fans could soon be feasting their eyes on the Uruguayan's goal scoring prowess in the Hero Indian Super League, if reports are to be believed.
As per as a report published by Goal.com, the former Manchester United and Atletico Madrid star could be joining reigning champions Atletico de Kolkata as their marquee signing in the second installment of the tournament.
Speaking to Goal, his agent Roberto Mendes Silva has refused to speak of the prospect of the rumoured move, stating, “At this point of time, I cannot speak anything on this.”
Forlan had earlier visited India in 2010 for an exhibition match in Kolkata while representing his club Inter Milan.
Atletico de Kolkata are co-owned by La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, and a switch for Forlan to the Indian club wouldn’t come as a surprise if completed because of his relations with the Madrid-based side.
Forlan is a former Pichichi and European Golden Shoe winner, having won both the awards twice with Atletico Madrid. He was also bestowed the Golden Ball award in 2010 for his heroic performances for the Uruguayan national team in the FIFA World Cup.
