One of the world’s greatest footballers of all time, Argentina legend Diego Maradona is set to come out of retirement at the age of 53!

He plans to make a return to the football pitch in March for Argentine fifth division side Deportivo Riestra, 16 years after he retired.

The club is financed by his lawyer who is also a very close friend of Maradona, Victor Stinfale.

With such a sensational turn of events in the offing, the club is even planning to play their games in the stadium of San Lorenzo, a top flight club, nearby, instead of their own stadium which can house only 3,000 fans.

The club have already requested the Argentina FA to allow Maradona to play for the club. And club sources don’t see any problems with the paperwork and expect everything to go smoothly.

“I want to play,” said Maradona when asked about a possible return.

A source at the club revealed, “Within five gameweeks, Maradona will be playing for Riestra,”

“He will debut on approximately the 23rd of March.”

It is believed that he may even get his favoured number 10 shirt. The current owner of the shirt was only too happy to give up the number saying, “I’ll wear whatever.”

If you think 53-year-old Maradona isn’t fit enough, maybe this will change your mind!
