Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro Esporte Clube in Brazil. The 21-year old leaves the club, after signing a five and a half year deal with the Los Blancos.
Silva will be presented to the Bernebeu faithful on Monday, after undergoing a medical at the club. The transfer fee is said to be in the range of € 14 million, which will be split between multiple third party owners.
During his time at Cruzeiro, Lucas Silva helped the club to two league titles and was honoured as the Brazilian league’s best defender.
Real Madrid stated on their website that Lucas Silva has “good ball skills and is also noted for his defensive work.”
Cruzeiro Vice President, Marcio Rodrigues said, “Lucas Silva is signed and the announcement should be made [soon]. As of now there is nothing more to wait on. When the athlete wants to go and there's pressure in this business the high salaries in Europe prevail.”
Whether Lucas Silva can become a permanent fixture in the star-studded Real Madrid line-up, only time will tell.
