Didier Drogba has presented individual rings to his former Chelsea mates to honour the memory of their Champions League final victory last season. The ring is said to cost around £800,000.
The Ivorian forward hosted a dinner for the players and staff at Wyndham Grand Chelsea Harbour, a hotel in London, and presented them with the rings, as a surprise.
“I wanted to give something to the team so we can all look back and remember that achievement,” said Drogba, before singling out John Terry, in attendance, for special praise. “You’re my hero and everyone at Chelsea loves you,” he added.
However, their iconic manager, Roberto Di Matteo, who led them to a comeback win against Napoli and eventually finished with glory, was not present. Fernando Torres was not present either. It also probably was a coincidence that the timing of the dinner came just one day after Chelsea failed to progress in the competition this term.
Drogba has returned to London after the end of the Chinese Super League, and is expected to train with Chelsea over the winter to keep in shape for the African Cup of Nations next month, when he will captain Ivory Coast.
