Galatasaray seemed to have pulled off their second big coup in the January transfer window. After bagging Sneijder from Inter Milan earlier, it seems that ex-Chelsea hitman Didier Drogba has come to an agreement with the Turkish giants to sign a one-and-a-half year contract.
The official broadcaster of the Turkish league was the source of this news break. The Ivory Coast international has been playing in China for Shanghai Shenhua after leaving the Blues at the end of last year. However, reports of unpaid wages had begun to surface a few months earlier, leading to constant talk of the the ex-African player of the year’s departure from Chinese shores.
All this had culminated into Drogba applying for permission in November to leave Shanghai on loan. FIFA, however rejected his plea. Drogba had signed a deal reportedly worth around $300,000 per week last June for two-and-a-half years with the Chinese outfit.
