Berlin, Sep 29 – Newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf drew 2-2 with Schalke following a brace by Dani Schahin in the opener of the sixth round of German Bundesliga football season.
Dusseldorf started at great pace, as Dani Schahin’s shot went just wide with four minutes into the match Friday, reports Xinhua.
Schalke opened the scoring through Dutchman Klaas Jan Huntelaar in the 14th minute as he shrugged off three defenders to slot home from 17 metres out.
Schalke’s Joel Matip doubled the lead in the 20th minute when he had all time and space to head home a precise free kick cross by Christian Fuchs.
Hosts Dusseldorf were unable to gain a foothold into the match as Schalke held on to their two goal lead till the end of the first half.
With the beginning of the second half things changed as Schahin reduced Schalke lead to 2-1. Schahin utilized a corner by Andrey Voronin to lob the ball over Schalke’s goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall in the 47th minute.
The hosts finally wrapped the 2-2 draw as Schahin nodded home his brace following a diving header from inside the box in the 77th minute.
Thus newly promoted Dusseldorf remains unbeaten in the first division while Schalke were held to their second draw.
