IFA Shield 2012
100 years after their historic IFA Shield triumph over East Yorkshire Regiment, Mohun Bagan shockingly didn’t take part in the competition citing injuries to key players although this was their best chance of winning some silverware. Morgan hadn’t won the IFA Shield in his first season so he kept fielding his strongest side despite being in the I-League title race and was duly rewarded as East Bengal defeated United Sports Club (called Prayag United back then) on penalties with young Gurpreet Sandhu making two vital saves in the shootout. It was their record 28th title but only the first since 2002.
