Kolkata and Indian football giants East Bengal have roped in South Korean midfielder Do Dong Hyun for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old midfielder becomes the Red and Gold Brigade's third foreign recruit of the season. They retained the services of Nigerian goal machine Ranti Martins and signed the talismanic center back Belo Rasaq from arch-rivals Mohun Bagan.
The South Korean is not an unknown face in Indian football scenario as he was last seen in the jersey of Indian Super League side Northeast United FC last season. He played 8 matches in total for the John Abraham owned side, and started in 4 games. The youngster has speed, skill and holds the capability to score goals for his team as and when required.
Do Dong Hyun started his career on a high when he had signed a three-year deal with A-League side Brisbane Roar in the year 2012. For some bitter reason, he could not continue with the side and later signed for J-League second division side FC Gifu.
East Bengal finished fourth last season in the I-League, their worst result in the last five seasons. They had an average campaign and failed to perform as per their reputation and abilities. They had a star-studded forward line comprising of two big names Ranti Martins and Dudu Omagbemi.
Inspite of recruiting big names in the striker position they failed to sign any good player in the attacking midfield zone. Do Dong Hyun’s inclusion will benefit the Kolkata outfit in many ways as he can play in every position in the midfield be it wing or in the attacking midfield zone.
The South Korean is expected to join East Bengal before the new season begins.
