Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard believes his side have the capabilities to win the Premier League title race after an impressive 1-0 victory over free-scoring Manchester City at the Etihad on Monday night, reports Sky Sports.

Branislav Ivanovic’s first half strike proved to be the difference as the west Londoners ended City’s unbeaten home record to draw level on points with their opponents and two behind league leaders Arsenal.

Although Jose Mourinho was expected to field a defensive formation, Hazard has revealed the Portuguese gave his front line the licence to attack City’s usually sturdy midfield.

“Lots of people thought that we would just set out to defend. But it was the opposite. We analysed City’s style of play very well before the game, and we came along to win.

“The discussions we had in advance were all about winning. The manager said, ‘Don’t defend, you are here to attack and score goals’. He said the same to all our attacking players. We really did things in fine style.” Hazard declared.

The win will provide a huge boost to Mourinho’s men, who have now beaten Manchester City twice in the league this season, despite their manager insisting that they are not yet ready to challenge for the title. However, Hazard is adamant that the team’s target is to win the Premier League crown.

“The three points will be important in the title race. We are aiming to win the league. It won’t be easy, but we won’t give up, we have the qualities needed to do it. Let’s see what happens between now and the end of the season,” he insisted.

Eden Hazard won an impressive 73% of his duels against Manchester City, including 11/14 take ons.
