Manchester United boss David Moyes is reportedly lining up a bid for Paris Saint Germain forward Edinson Cavani, just in case Wayne Rooney leaves the club. Contract talks with Rooney have stalled, leaving Moyes to target Cavani as a potential replacement should the former Everton man depart Old Trafford, report the Metro.
Rooney has been United’s most productive player this season, leading the way in terms of both goals and assists. He has nine goals and nine assists in the Premier League this season, but has frequently been linked with a move away from the club. A mooted move to Chelsea last summer failed to materialise, but the England man’s contract situation provides cause for concern amongst the Old Trafford hierarchy. Rooney has one year left on his current deal, and negotiations over a new one have stalled.
This has led them to draw up a list of potential replacements for Rooney, with Cavani top of the list. The forward only moved to Paris last summer, but is said to be frustrated at playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the French capital.
Whilst United have struggled domestically this season, Moyes still believes that the club will have little problem attracting players to Old Trafford, recently saying that the number of big players wanting to join United is incredible.
“Judging by trips I’ve made recently and the things I am hearing, what has happened so far this season won’t be an issue when we sign players,” said Moyes.
