Bogota, June 30 (IANS/EFE) Eight people died during the celebrations that took place here in the Colombian capital after the national team beat Uruguay to qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals.
"Eight people died in hospitals" announced Bogota's mayor Gustavo Petro via Twitter, reports EFE.
Colombian authorities then decided to implement strict measures here to combat violent incidents that take place during celebration, like imposing a ban on liquor.
This was the second time during the tournament that fans lost their lives during celebrations. Some nine people died during celebrations here after Colombia's 3-0 win over Greece in the group stage.
