Frankfurt, May 26 (IANS)
Thomas Schaaf on Tuesday resigned as the head coach of the German football club Eintracht Frankfurt. The 54-year-old coach stepped down surprisingly with immediate effect after just one season with the Eagles.
According to German media, Thomas Schaaf leaves Frankfurt due to continual criticism by the club’s bosses, reports Xinhua.
“The recent public statements and the presentation of my work has led to incredible and incomprehensible accusations and assumptions in the media, which I can't and won't accept. Therefore we agreed to part company,” Thomas Schaaf said in an official statement.
The former long-time Werder Bremen coach took over from Armin Veh in July 2014 and singed a two-year deal with Frankfurt. Nevertheless, after just one season Schaaf asked the club for the dissolution of his contract.
