A fan asked Emmanuel Frimpong on Twitter why he wasn’t included in the Arsenal squad to face Chelsea in the Capital One Cup match on Tuesday night.
He responded first with a joke, posting: “Lol, I wanna laugh.”
He then Tweeted: “Sometimes I wish I was white and English. #realtalk.”
Fans immediately jumped to conclusion interpreting his race had something to do with his exclusion.
Arsene Wenger is well-known for picking foreign players in his squad since taking over at Arsenal in 1996. Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell, William Gallas, Bacary Sagna, Alex Song, etc.
Frimpong eventually deleted the tweets and tweeted the following to clarify that he wasn’t accusing Arsene Wenger of being racist for not picking him.
